I do have a personal office with a door as well as a glass wall facing into the communal team workspace. There are a few other individual offices like that including the ones for our fabulous administrative and finance teams, but the rest of the gang works in the open plan area. The truth is that I am actually in my office proper very little.

This was the first time that something like that was used in such a radical way, and people really responded positively to it. At that time, there was an attraction to things like covering the ceiling of New York’s Pierre hotel with thousands of orchids, simply to show that could be done. But I never wanted people to walk into something we did and say, "Look at how much money they spent!" I wanted people to walk in and say, "Wow, that's cool." A barista champ, rocket scientist, engineer, designer, and IoT expert came together to design an AI-enhanced coffee system capable of handling everything from grinding to brewing automatically with fine tuned precision.

Fabricating many of the installations out of his New York studio, with help from more than 50 staffers, Stark is a master storyteller. “My goal is to really push beyond what people enjoy for a handful of hours,” he says. “The hope is that these events last on, whether in someone’s brain or online.” AD PRO sat down with Stark to hear about some of the most memorable events he completed this year.

On occasion, though, we make physical boards that are particular to a project. For example, we are currently collaborating on a new tabletop book with designer and co-author Jane Schulak and photographer Aaron Delesie. There is so much content that we need to examine simultaneously that it was natural to go old-school and create pin-up boards that allow us to see all the materials in one place. Our studio, where we build the things we design, is a few blocks away. There are buzzing wood and paint shops, crafting areas, and a floral studio with a giant floral fridge.

Setting aside egregious exaggerations and heaps of heavy-breathing hype, this literary movement surely made the field more interesting for a while. A future in which control over access to information outweighed the importance of political or military power. Indeed, the best New Wave writers were wonderfully inventive, contributing something vital to our genre, just when it was needed most. They raised new issues, posed new quandaries, precisely because those prior battles had been won. The best of the old guard did not grouse when the newcomers came by, flaunting new, gaudy plumage.
When complemented by a range of casual shapes and marbleized waves, the straightforward print takes on fresh meaning. Be it a lavish peach or rusty apricot, of all the colors we’re craving right now, orange comes in at the top of our list. When working pattern into an already strong color scheme, be sure to pay attention to proportions. Most of the products being created by the tenants of Sunset Park’s Industry City are made to last (with the obvious exception of food).
Rather, they smiled, remembering what it was to be young. And they said, "Come on over here, son. Sit down and tell me all about it." Her book’s debut was celebrated Wednesday night, April 24, at Riverside’s Culver Center for the Arts. Stark was joined by two other Riverside County writers, Susan Straight and Alex Espinoza, who likewise employ Inland Empire settings and are published by New York houses. For the Robin Hood Foundation fundraiser at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Stark's team used backpacks to create stripes of color. We used paint swatches for a gala for the American Friends Service Committee at the Tate museum in 2007.
I have a series of pads all over the house, in my office, and in the bag that I carry around with me. They are mostly nothing fancy, usually simple, blue-lined legal pads, but at home, I like the thick blocks of white paper with silver painted edges by WMS & Co. It feels really luxurious to write on those blocks, especially with a mechanical pencil. One of our wonderful designers, Daria Semenova has taught me the joys of the mechanical pencil – she’s got a whole array of them that I am envious over. I finally got one for my home, but I don’t carry it around with me because I would lose it in an instant. While certain prints can get a bad rap, don’t write off any “dated” patterns just yet.
